About our
Club-
The Bulkley Valley Otters is a competitive swim club that has been
in operation since 1991 thanks to the efforts of parents who seized
the opportunity that came with the opening of the Bulkley Valley
Regional Pool in December 1990. It was decided that it would
be a Winter club, swimming from September to June each year.
The
club is part of the Points North Swimming Association and the North
West Region of Swim BC, spanning the area between Smithers and the
Queen Charlottes. There are five amateur swim clubs in the
northwest region of the province; Masset Eagles, Prince Rupert
Rapids, Kitimat Marlins, Terrace Bluebacks, and Bulkley Valley
Otters. These five teams share the responsibility of organizing
invitational meets at least once a month within the northwest
division throughout the season. Our swimmers attend regular
swim meets which are well attended despite the obvious
obstacles presented by the distances between the hosting clubs and
winter weather. Points North connects these smaller clubs and
represents them as a whole in our provincial parent organization,
Swim BC. Swim BC is a not-for-profit Provincial Sport
Organization, and links the Otters nationally with the National
Sport Organization and Swimming/Natation Canada.
Over the past fifteen years, the club has continued to expand in membership and quality of
performance. Many of these swimmers, through hard work and
dedication, attain times which allow them to compete in AA and AAA
provincial championships outside of the region and national
competitions across the country. This is a wonderful opportunity for any swimmer!
